Crazy Bird Lady
A Play Reading That’s For the Birds (in the Best Way!)
When a reclusive birdwatcher’s quiet day in nature is interrupted by an overly medicated, smartphone-obsessed teen, an unexpected encounter unfolds. Funny, tense, and surprisingly moving, Crazy Bird Lady explores mental health, unlikely connection, and the quiet power of nature. This special reading also supports urban environmental stewardship and nature education, helping protect Hoboken’s honorary bird — the tern.
by playwright & lyricist Chris Widney, directed by Heather Wahl, Speranza's Artistic Director.

Steel Magnolias
This funny yet touching story follows six women as they navigate friendship, love, and loss. They tease, gossip, and challenge one another during life’s happiest moments—and come together with care and support during its toughest times. Set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin Parish, Louisiana, the women may appear as graceful as magnolias, but they possess a strength as unyielding as steel.
Presented by students of Hudson Catholic Regional High School in Jersey City and sponsored by Speranza Theatre Company, located at Museum of Jersey City History, 298 Academy Street, Jersey City.
