On September 30th, VOICES FOR VOTES will unite nonprofit theatre companies, arts organizations, and educational institutions nationwide to present plays, readings, and performances that inspire non-partisan voter registration and participation. By merging the arts with civic engagement, our goal is to create a memorable and impactful experience that energizes communities, underscores the significance of every vote, and motivates citizens to shape their future.

VOICES FOR VOTES aims to have at least one theatre in each state offering a free theatrical event on September 30th, all united in encouraging voter registration and participation. Theatres can create original programming or choose from options provided by Speranza, including access to our short film, VOTES FOR WOMEN, for a local screening, or the script for a live reading of our play, VOTES FOR WOMEN. Speranza will supply all marketing materials to promote the event and will assist in connecting your organization with local voter registration resources. Please continue fro additional information.

In Jersey City, we'll be at City Hall from 6-8 PM sharing our new play, Mary & Eleanor. We'll also have the information for all of the other participating theatres and their live streams on our website!

So much of what we do is made more successful through our supporters word-of-mouth. Help spread the word by connecting us with press, local officials, and potential sponsors. Tell your friends and family about what Speranza is doing to get out the vote. Most importantly, get those folks registered and remind them of the importance of voting.

Help us spread the word via social media. Join us and be an influencer for the event. We need people to volunteer to share graphics to their followers and make and share videos on their Instagram, TikTok and Facebook to help us spread the word and amplify our message.

The mission of VOICES FOR VOTES is to merge the arts with civic engagement by creating a nationwide social arts initiative that inspires non-partisan voter registration and participation.

Background

VOICES FOR VOTES is a national initiative created by Speranza Theatre Company in Jersey City, NJ. Speranza produces evocative theatre, focusing on stories by and about women, and offers educational programming that promotes equality, community, inclusivity, and collaboration. Many of Speranza’s original works are history-based plays, including Jennie Contuzzi’s VOTES FOR WOMEN, which tells the story of Alice Paul, the 1913 suffrage parade, and the brave women who silently protested for their right to vote in front of the White House. In light of the upcoming election, Speranza aims to remind voters that their vote matters and to inspire voter registration and participation.
